In brief

A Public Library built at Spring Hill in 1893 by Martin & Chamberlain. Built of bright red brick with terracotta dressings, it is a Grade II* listed building, and now next to a Tesco supermarket. There is a view of it from the Secret Garden at the Library of Birmingham.

Spring Hill Library - history

The library was designed in 1891 by Frederick Martin of Martin & Chamberlain with a 65 foot clock tower on the corner of Icknield Street and Spring Hill.

The library opened on the 7th January 1893, and is now next to the Spring Hill roundabout and a Tesco superstore, that opened in 2010.
