Bescot Stadium (formerly Banks's Stadium) - A Walsall & West Midlands Gem!

The Bescot Stadium was built during 1989-90 and was opened in 1990. It is the home ground of Walsall Football Club. From 2007 to 2022 it was known as the Bank's Stadium.

In brief

The stadium was built between 1989 and 1990. It replaced Walsall Football Club's previous ground, Fellows Park (which was their home for 94 years). The stadium is close to the M6 motorway. It was named Banks's Stadium with a sponsorship deal from 2007 until 2022. Since then it's been the Poundland Bescot Stadium.

Walsall Football Club was previously based at Fellows Park from 1896 until they moved to the Bescot Stadium in 1990.

There was plans for a new stadium for Walsall FC as early as 1986, and in 1988 a site at Bescot Crescent was found, work began on the new stadium in 1989 and was completed in time for the 1990-91 season.

The stadium was opened in August 1990 by Sir Stanley Matthews, prior to a friendly game with neighbours Aston Villa.

The home end of the ground, formerly known as the Gilbert Alsop Stand was extended during the 2002-03 season.

In 2007 there was a sponsorship deal with Banks's Brewery, with the name officially changed from the Bescot Stadium to the Bank's Stadium, this deal was extended in 2016 until the summer of 2022.

The new sponsor of the Bescot Stadium from 2022 is Poundland.

One of the stands was called the Floors-2-Go Stand, later the Tile Choice Stand, and now the HomeServe Stand.

Former names of the Tile Choice Stand includes the H. L. Fellows Stand, while another stand is called the Poundland Stand.

There is also a University of Wolverhampton Stand for away fans, and Experienced Energy Solutions Communiy Stand, plus the Bonser Suite.

Since 2009, there has been a large digital advertising board at the Bescot Stadium, facing the M6 motorway.

Public transport - Bescot Stadium Station

Walsall FC fans and visitors can get the train between Birmingham New Street and Walsall, alighting at Bescot Stadium Station. Exit via the footbridge, then a path under the M6 motorway towards the station car park. The Bescot Stadium is a short walk away.

Local bus routes include the 45 from Diamond Buses, and 881 from National Express West Midlands.

By car or coach: get off at M6, Junction 9, the Wednesbury Interchange, via the Bescot Road.
