The Queen's Head - A Birmingham Gem!

The Queen's Head is on Steelhouse Lane in Birmingham. The Victorian pub was replaced in the 1960's by a plain building. Was The Jekyll & Hyde from 2009 to 2021.

Where is The Queen's Head?

The Queen's Head is at 28 Steelhouse Lane, Birmingham, B4 6BJ. It is between the Juvenile Court (now Birmingham and Solihull Coroner’s Court) and Two Colmore Square.

In brief

There was a Victorian Mitchells & Butlers pub called The Queen's Head on Steelhouse Lane. It was replaced by a plain brutalist building in the 1960s. It was taken over by new owners who ran it as The Jekyll & Hyde from 2009, but it closed down for good in 2021 after the pandemic (previous owners was Bitters N' Twisted). In 2022 it has been taken over by Davenport's. It reopened on Friday 20th May 2022.

The Queen's Head - history

There had been a public house on this site on Steelhouse Lane since at least the end of the 19th century.

By the 1920s The Queen's Head was run by Mitchells & Butlers.

In the 1960s the Victorian pub was demolished, an plain four storey brutalist building was constructed.

It was The Queen's Head until at least 2008, and probably owned by Mitchells & Butlers until that year.

In 2009, The Island Bar Group took over the ownership of The Queen's Head and converted it into a bar called The Jekyll & Hyde.

At the time the same owners as The Victoria near The Alexandra Theatre.

By 2019, The Jekyll & Hyde had externally been repainted blue.

They were at the time owned by Bitters N' Twisted.

The pub closed down during the lockdowns in 2020, and by 2021 it permanently closed down.

But in 2022, Davenports took over the ownership of the pub, and they are currently renovating the building, back into The Queen's Head.

It reopened on Friday 20th May 2022.
