Built from 1931 to 1932 as offices for the South Staffordshire Waterworks Company, the building on Sheepcote Street was formerly home to the Brasshouse Language Centre from 1985 until they moved into the Library of Birmingham on Level 1 as Brasshouse Languages. The building is now vacant again.

The classical former South Staffordshire Waterworks Co. offices was built in 1931 - 32 by Crouch, Butler & Savage.

The Brasshouse Language Centre was established in the late 1970's.

They were based at 50 Sheepcote Street from 1985 to 2016.
They moved onto Level 1 at the Library of Birmingham in 2016, and this building has been vacant since then.
It is possible some of these rear buildings were once part of the Outpatients of the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital, which was at Islington House at 80 Broad Street (Zara's until 2021).
As of 2022, the classical buildings are dwarfed by the skyscrapers that is The Bank towers 1 & 2, The Mercian and Cumberland House (Hampton by Hilton hotel).
