In brief

The White House started as a similar building to the Burlington Hotel in 1874-75, then was rebuilt in 1911-12 at the same time the Piccadilly Arcade was being built (then a silent cinema). The building was refurbished in 2021 for Hortons' Estate.

The White House - history

The building is owned by Hortons' Estate.

The architect Thomson Plevins designed the first building at this corner, erected in 1874-75.

It was close to the Theatre Royal (1774 - 1956).

Nichol & Nichol reconstructed The White House in 1911-12, around the same time as they were building The Picture House next door (now the Piccadilly Arcade).

Thomson had a travel shop at the Lower Temple Street and New Street corner until they went bust 2018.
